Our Work

Other than the Children’s Home, Sneha Foundation has worked on several other important projects
that supported more Women and Children at various stages of it’s existence.

  • The Lighthouse School, an after-school program that caters to children from 4 villages

  • Forest Kindergarten, a nature based child development program for the children at the Children’s Home

  • Good Earth, an organic farming project for food sustainability

  • Hems & Hues, a social business that currently supports underprivileged women

Lighthouse School

Children from the nearby villages participate in various activities in the weekends such as free play inside and outside, prepare lunch, work the garden, paint, draw and make crafts.

They also participate in read-alouds, singing, learning about the flora & fauna in their backyard and grow a bond with nature.

The aim of the weekend school is to inspire in each student a lifelong love of learning that enables them to fully develop their unique capacities; something that remain unaddressed in their traditional rote learning. Lighthouse School offers them the opportunity to be among thousands of rich, colorful Living Books where there is practically no other library in the vicinity.

A computer lab with 10 computers is available to the students. The lab was made possible by a generous donation from the family of Mr. Mosharraf Hossain Khan (1950-2011), one of the pioneers of microcredit in Bangladesh. His family wanted his vision and legacy to live on and touch future generations. Through this lab, the students have a window open to the world. They learn basic computer literacy that grows with their capacity, attend online classes, watch educational vdos and learn to do independent research.

Objectives of Lighthouse School

  • Ensure the children get the opportunities that are unavailable in local, primary schools.

  • Keep children happily involved in a fun and positive environment.

  • Provide for the children’s mental well being through creative art, music, crafts, and enthusiastic human and animal interactions.

  • Open their world to limitless possibilities, so that they can grow as their best selves.

After the devastating tragedy of the Savar building collapse, Sneha Foundation launched an initiative to support 100 families and 132 children for one year. An integral part of the initiative was to re-establish the affected families by sustaining them for one year while they recovered from the trauma and then training the families in making alternative income sources for themselves. Hems & Hues was the result of this effort.

Over the course of the next 5 years, Hems & Hues trained 50+ and employed 18 women who survived the tragedy. That helped them recover from trauma and get back to a free, productive, independent lives. Our seamstresses are textile artisans who design, dye, and hand sew functional, one-of- a-kind pieces of art that people around the world use for warmth, comfort and for adding beauty to their homes.

After successfully running the initiative for 5 years, Hems & Hues is temporarily paused. We are hoping to get Hems & Hues up and running soon again so it can give financial support to Sneha Foundation in Changing Lives through it’s various projects.

Good Earth

We live on 8 acres in the Shaal forest. We grow 100% of our own vegetables and 70% of our own fruits that we eat year round. We eventually want to grow 100% of our meat too that we consume. We are very lucky to pursue our passion for food grown at home, homemade soaps and cleaners made from natural ingredients, and easy farm fresh meals - the dream of many who are joining the call of a simple life movement. We call our homestead - Good Earth.

Good Earth Fisheries

Good Earth also homes a flock of hens for fresh eggs, meat chickens we butcher ourselves, and fish (cuz you haven’t eaten fish until you’ve had home grown). We believe in keeping the old ways alive, that our food shouldn’t come pesticides laden or highly processed with ingredient lists a mile long that you can’t pronounce.

We live in an over-paced, stressed out world. The demand of having more, doing more, and being told to juggle home, social life, career, and a spiritual life has most of us frazzled and longing for a simpler time. We know there’s more to life than running on the edge of exhaustion.

We chose to pare down to the true essentials, so we can create and enjoy our home and life. Our children know where our food comes from, they are nourished by the wholesome food that they help grow. This is one of the most important component of the Children’s Home.
